The mammal ensemble found in each of Earth’s major biogeographic regions is the result of history, climate, and land forms. Climate (including temperature and precipitation) interacts with land forms, such as mountains and plains, to produce different habitats. Forests, grasslands, deserts, and many other kinds of habitats provide a variety of living communities to which the different kinds of mammals have adapted.
