E hele mai to the Burke Museum’s Artist Studio to learn about various styles of lei making at this drop-in workshop.

Artists include Kumu Alice Kawakami who resides in Kāne’ohe, O’ahu and Kumu Nani Pai who lives in Puna, Hawai’i. They are joined by Kumu 'Iwalani Christian, a Kauaʻi native and the esteemed Kumu Hula of Nā Lei O Manuʻakepa, a traditional Hālau Hula located right here in Seattle.

All participants will be able to make and take a wristlet, or kupe’e in Hawaiian, made in the Hilo style with lā’ī or ti.

Visitors who already know the Hilo style and want to try something different are welcome to work on another style of lei demonstrated at the workshop.

No registration is required and visitors are welcome to stay as long as they'd like.
