Enjoy fossilized fun at five drop-in stations designed for young learners ages 3–8. Hold fossils and casts at the touch table, make scientific discoveries in the dig pit, create a craft to take home, and collect a new stamp each month in your Fossil Finders Passport.

Step back in time to the Ice Ages of Washington state!

PLUS — Watch Burke paleontologists put together a Triceratops skull

Burke paleontologists are assembling small puzzle-like pieces of fossil from the FlyBy Triceratops (FlyBy Trike) — one of many dinosaurs collected as part of the Hell Creek Project directed by curator Dr. Gregory Wilson Mantilla. This project seeks to understand the ecology, ecosystem, and extinction of the last dinosaurs in North America. The FlyBy Trike's horns were spotted sticking out of a Montana hillside by a rancher using his plane check his cattle, hence the name, FlyBy. 
 
FlyBy was one of the last triceratops to ever live, roaming northeast Montana just 200,000 years before the non-avian dinosaur extinction event. Paleonotlogists know FlyBy was an older dinosaur, but do not know if it was male or female.

Paleontologists are having a "puzzle party," organizing and piecing together tiny pieces of skull, hoping for a first look at the face of FlyBy! 

You can see them in action in the paleontology workroom on Floor 3, Sunday, January 28, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
