On Our Terms is a video project grounded in storytelling of commonly used DEAI terms like decolonization, consultation, and healing. Through personal stories and unique perspectives, these videos present a nuanced collage of how people understand these words and invite viewers to reflect on their own definitions.

Join producers Aaron McCanna (Yup’ik) and Timothy Kenney for a conversation about how they made On Our Terms, how they incorporated decolonized thought, and what they learned from the process.

Aaron McCanna (he/him) is a mixed race Yup’ik/Mexican American/Irish/Scottish thinker who spends his time considering how to implement decolonial work and values. Growing up in Kingston, WA, his first teachers were his grandmothers, his parents, and the forest he spent his childhood in. Aaron has a BA in Archaeology from Western Washington University and a MA in Public Archaeology from the University of New Mexico. He currently works at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture as the Decolonization Manager, and hopes his work can contribute to healing our relationships to the land and each other.
