Angelique Guina is a 1.5-gen Filipino-American illustrator and relief printmaker. During her time at the Burke, Angelique will share the process of transferring an illustration from paper onto a block, carving, rolling ink, and printing.
About the Artist
A lifelong artist, Angelique Guina discovered block printing in 2020, seeking out a more accessible form of printmaking after transitioning to online classes during the pandemic. Initially beginning as a means of connection during isolation (sending snail mail), she quickly fell in love with the therapeutic nature of carving and block printing. Her work continues to evolve but is deeply shaped by her experiences growing up in the U.S. while navigating the complexities of identity, belonging, and cultural expectations. Inspired by love and connection across cultures, her prints depict plants and animals that are often described as quirky, endearing, or reminiscent of a person or memory.
