ABSTRACT The principal features and origins of the entomofauna of the islands of the Kuril Archipelago are presented. In addition to general information and a detailed review of several insect groups encountered on the islands--orthopteroids, proboscideans, hemipterans, coleopterans, and hymenopterans--the diverse entomological complexes characteristic of the island habitats, processes of speciation under island conditions, zoogeographic peculiarities, and pathways of formation of the entomofauna are examined. |
