EMMA DUSKEY FRANK Hupa

Lila O'Neale identified Emma Duskey Frank as the finest weaver of her time. O'Neale collected all of the California baskets in this exhibit from their makers in 1930. She was the first researcher to work with northern California basket
weavers and record their own ideas about basketry.

MRS. ANNIE WILLIAMS Yurok

Annie Williams lived at Wetlkwau, California; she was about
sixty-five when Lila O'Neale interviewed her in 1932. One of
three sisters, all known as basket makers with high standards,
Annie made fancy baskets of the cooking type as well as grass
overlay baskets of a modern style. She eagerly experimented with
new forms shown to her in photographs by O'Neale.
